FileSift is built to work on your Mac without sending your files anywhere. This page says exactly what the app does and does not send.
Your files stay on your Mac
FileSift reads the folders you give it access to, on your Mac, to show thumbnails, answer searches and find duplicates. File names, contents, thumbnails and search words are never uploaded, synced or analysed on a server. The app has no account, no sign-in and no analytics or tracking.
What the app does contact
- Licence activation (direct download version). When you enter a licence key, the app sends the key, a one-way hash of your Mac’s hardware ID (the raw ID never leaves your Mac), your Mac’s name and the app version. It checks again about every three days so one key stays on one Mac at a time. Deactivating removes the link.
- Update checks. The app asks our update server for the latest version. Like any web request, this shows your IP address, the app version and your macOS version.
- Mac App Store version. Purchases and licensing are handled by Apple. That version does not contact our licence server.
Payments
Direct purchases are processed by Dodo Payments, who act as the seller of record. We never see your card details. We receive your email address and the licence key issued to you.
Deleting files
FileSift only removes files when you ask. Removals go to the Trash, and the app shows how many files and how much space before it moves anything.
